“Ki Society 2019 USA National Seminar” in Las Vegas

“Ki Society 2019 USA National Seminar” was held in June 27 – 30th at the University of Nevada  Las Vegas (UNLV) in Las Vegas.  

The seminar was set up with 350 tatami mats at the beutiful facility (UNLV Recriation and Wellness Center) at the campus.  The attendees were about 140 people and not only from the US, but also from Britain, Russia, Australia, Brazil and Japan.  

The seminar was led by Shinichi Tohei Sensei from Japan, the president of Shin Shin Toitsu Aikidokai and son of Koichi Tohei Soshu.  At the seminar, we practiced various techniques based on the following themes:

  • “Become one with the universe”
  • “Ki naturally flows with everything”
  • “Keep the mind calm when moving”
  • “Moving from the tip”

Announcement: “Ki Society 2019 USA National Seminar” in Las Vegas

Dear Torrance Aikido Club members

Ki Society 2019 USA National Seminar will be held in June 28 – 30th in Las Vegas.  (Certified Instructor Training will be in June 27th.)  The conference site is the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV).

The seminar will be led by Shinichi Tohei Sensei from Japan, the president of Shin Shin Toitsu Aikidokai and son of Koichi Tohei Soshu.  

SCHEDULE:

  • 6/27 (Thu): Certified Instructors’ Training (Morning & Afternoon Training)
  • 6/28 (Fri): General Practice (Morning and Afternoon Training)
  • 6/29 (Sat): General Practice (Morning and Afternoon Training)
  • 6/30 (Sun): General Practice (Morning Training)

LOCATION:  University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV) , the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC)

HOUSING and MEALS:  Dayton Complex (UNLV Conference Housing), provide Breakfast and Lunch (no Lunch on 6/30), Banquet (evening of 6/29)

* all participants must be members of Ki Society and have approval from their Chief Instructor to attend.

This seminar will give you rare opportunity to learn Ki Aikido from directory from Shinichi Tohei Sensei, and also meet many other instructors and members who practice Ki Aikido around the United States.

“So CA Ki Society Fall Seminar 2018” on Nov. 17 & 18

Southern California Ki Society Fall Seminar 2018 was held on November 17th and 18th at Torrance Cultural Arts Center.  In this seminar, not only people from Southern California like Torrance and Santa Barbara, but also from Las Vegas, Berkeley, Seattle and Houston dojos who practice Ki-Aikido attended.  

We practiced and learned Aikido principles and a wide variety of Aikido techniques under the instruction of Clarence Chinn Sensei. The teaching during the seminar helped us to improve our techniques but also to understand important principles of Ki-Aikido.        

The two days seminar (8:30AM to 4:00PM) included morning and afternoon seminars on both days with delicious bento box lunch at the Cultural Arts Center courtyard, Pine Wind Japanese Garden.  Also we all enjoyed the dinar at China Buffet restaurant at Saturday evening. 

Thank you for all attendees especially people from other cities and states, Susan Grigsby sensei from Seattle Ki Aikido, Don Bannai sensei from Las Vegas, Alex Korn sensei from Addison Street Ki Aikido, Colin Li Pi Shan sensei from Houston Ki Aikido, and special thanks for Chinn sensei!

Southern California Ki Society Fall Seminar 2017

Southern California Ki Society Fall Seminar 2017 was held on December 9th and 10th at Torrance Cultural Arts Center.  People who practice Ki-Aikido in Torrance, Santa Barbara, Las Vegas and  Seattle dojos attended to the seminar.   

We practiced and learned Aikido principles and a wide variety of Aikido techniques under the instruction of Clarence Chinn Sensei, Chief Instructor of So Cal Ki Society, and Susan Grigsby Sensei, Head Instructor of Seattle Ki-Aikido. 

Many of the teachings were came from the Japan camp, which held in October in this year.  The teaching during the seminar helped us to improve our techniques but also to understand important principles of Ki-Aikido.        

The two days seminar (8:30AM to 4:00PM) included morning and afternoon seminars on both days.  Also we all enjoyed the delicious sushi lunch at the Cultural Arts Center courtyard, Pine Wind Japanese Garden.   Special thanks to Paul Krumholz for helping to prepare the lunches and to take care the registration.

This is officially the last seminar for Chinn Sensei to give us his teaching as Torrance Head Instructor due to his retirement from the position.  From next year, Chinn Sensei will be the adviser and Chief Instructor of So Cal Ki Society.  Thank you Chinn Sensei !
